Connecting to Holden

im am connecting with the key concept of mental retardation. I believe that Holden had a problem because he cant concentrate, he keeps getting kicked out of school, and he thinks everybody is "phony". my connection to this is that my cousin has been kicked out of school because he wasnt trying in class, and he has really bad adhd and he cant help it. this helps me understand Holden because he can't help thinking the way he does.

    Nice observation, although I'm not sure he's ADHD. Maybe he has a little difficulty to learn, maybe. But I think his main problem is with behavior. He keeps getting kicked out because he doesn't care about his attitude.

    And ADHD is not a mental redardation :)
    I have problems concentrating, I might have a little ADHD as well, but I'm far from being retarded (i believe)

    I think that Holden thinks in a completely different way than most people, like you. But that is what makes you who you are. Nice connection Josh.

    I agree that the knowledge that we have about Holden would lend itself towards ADHD, but I think that label gets thrown around and misused too much. Thomas is right as well, ADHD does not retard the mentality of those diagnosed with it at all, it is just an aspect of their minds in which they lack the ability to maintain focus which leads to distractions and poor academic and social consequences.
